With rising fuel prices making it hard for many businesses to maintain their bottom line, Transport Canada has launched a new incentive to make it easier for companies across the country to purchase zero-emission vehicles – helping to save the environment and at the gas pump.
In Canada, medium and heavy-duty vehicles are a massive source of pollution and fuel consumption. With many companies looking for ways to lower costs and emissions, the government is committed to helping by rewarding businesses that switch to zero-emission vehicles.
The main force behind this program is Transport Minister, Omar Alghabra, who advised that the government is investing almost $550 million through this incentive to help companies make the switch.
This new program provides incentives worth about 50% of the price difference between an electric vehicle and a traditional vehicle. That’s a range of $10,000 to $200,000 depending on the type of vehicle being applied for. This discount is applied at the point of sale by either a dealership or authorized seller (OEMs, vehicle finishers, distributors) to ensure a quick and easy process.
Sound like something you want to learn more about? Speak to your local Jim Peplinski Leasing Representative to find out if your upcoming purchase qualifies. Applications for the incentive will be available in the coming months, though requests for reimbursements won’t be fulfilled until the fall of 2022. To be eligible, vehicles must meet all of Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and be meant for use on public roadways. Applicants must also be registered Canadian businesses based in Canada.
